I’ve been fired up about the iPad since it was just a rumor, but I wonder how the rest of you feel about it. As a law student or practicing attorney, do you think the iPad would be a good fit for you?

I will get an iPad, if I can take hand written notes on it during client meetings, and use it to show information to clients.
If I cannot do that, then forget it, I have no purpose for it. It is a work horse for me, not a media toy. And, I might just wait for the second version before picking one up.
I have to agree with M,
I had hoped that the iPad would be something that would rival Microsoft’s Courier and would replace my 3 ring binder at school. And while I’m generally opposed to ebooks, I would have been willing to try it out if I had the ability to “realistically” mark my notes and highlight. Functionally, I had hoped the iPad would help me reduce the weight of my bag, not become another thing to add.
Oh well, here’s to waiting for the 2G iPad – and crossing my fingers.
Instapaper, Papers, Zinio and iWork.
Maybe the LexisNexis app, too, if it stops being so terrible.
But those initial four are why I am going to buy one.
I’ll have to get my hands on one in-person, but right now I still don’t see any real benefit to an iPad over my current MacBook Pro — the iPad is a bit lighter, but it seems to be at a huge tradeoff in functionality. And I type far faster than I can write by hand >_<
Soooo going to get one. Pre-ordered one the first day (3G model). I’m planning to use it for everything, in fact, I’m going to forgo my iPhone for a simple phone with voice and text – no web. That will put me back to a phone that works as a great phone and an always on, always connected, internet device.
To put this in perspective, I’m out of law school now and actively trying to build a practice in my spare time. During the day, I work for a technology company and travel a lot. I don’t always need a full laptop, and most times it’s a negative. I’m looking forward to presenting with Keynote, interacting with multiple web applications, and using an internet device everywhere like I do now with my iPhone – but in a form factor where I can get real work done.
Late April can’t get here fast enough.
I haven’t pre-ordered one, but I do want one eventually. The key thing for me was being able to annotate ebooks. without that functionality, it’s a great toy for the living room, but wouldn’t do me much good in school.
If I didn’t need SoftTest for exams I’d have an iPad in a heartbeat! The Air will just have to tide me over for one more year!
