Using Your MacBook’s Trackpad to Full Advantage

You can do some pretty nifty things with the trackpad on your Macintosh laptop. To play around with trackpad options, go to the Apple menu in the upper left corner of your screen, select System Preferences… and when the preferences window opens, select Trackpad under the Hardware heading.

If you place your mouse over one of the options, a little video shows you how that option works. Nice touch.

Yes, I only just recently discovered this myself, even though I’ve had my MBP since January. I hold my head down in shame. I expect that in short order my geek credentials will be revoked by the authorities.

Whenever I hover my pointer over the option I don’t see the videos. Any idea why?

That’s odd. Are you running OS X 10.5.7 on an Intel machine?

How old is Sam’s macbook pro? This feature only works on those notebooks whose trackpad can do swipe and pinch.

Looks like I opened a can of worms. This TUAW article explains that “If you have a MacBook Pro manufactured before early 2008 or any plastic MacBook, then Snow Leopard or not, multi-touch isn’t coming your way… .”

    Sorry for the confusion, folks.
