If you’re new to MLS and wondering what sort of content might be useful to you, this list should give you an idea of what MLS has covered in the past. Some of this content is a bit long in the tooth and needs to be updated or replaced. I’m slowly bringing the site back to life again, and should be updating content more frequently in the next few weeks.
In the mean time here’s the list:
Erik’s Mac Law School Setup – One student’s setup. The only reason it’s the top content item is that it’s been up for so long.
Devonthink, KIT, SOHO Notes, Yojimbo – A fairly thorough review of four handy applications. Other than Yojimbo, all of the other apps have been through at least one major revision since this review.
Exam Software Info – The primary reason I created MLS. This list does not cover all law schools, but I’m always adding more.
Templates & Example Files – This is not as extensive as it could be, but does provide some examples of how Mac-using law students take notes, prep for exams, and so on.
Solid Roundup of Mac Note Taking Apps – Actually this is just a link out to an article at The Apple Blog, which provides basic info on several note taking applications.
The Mac Law Students Basic Software Arsenal – A category-by-category listing of some of the software tools most often used by Mac users in law school. Certainly not definitive, but a good place to start if you’re new to the Mac.
Why Use Macintosh – If you’re still puzzling over why anyone would want to use a Mac for anything other than target practice, give this a read. I need to update this page, as there are now even more points in favor of Macintosh.
Athas’s Mac Mac Law School Setup – Another student’s setup. Athas has a rather different setup than I did, which confirms my belief that there is no One True Way to use a Mac in law school.
OmniOutliner Pro Kinkless GTD – The OmniOutliner Pro notetaking aspect of this post is probably more useful than the part about Kinkless, since the latter has been superseded by OmniFocus. I relied on OO Pro for all my law school notetaking.
Brian’s Mac Law School Setup – Another student setup. You’ll see as you read more of these just how diverse the Mac-using law school crowd is, and how many ways there are to arrive at the right setup for your needs.
